About ABOVE THE FOLD

Working globally and contributing locally, ABOVE THE FOLD is a U.S.-based agency and team that curates and promotes the built environment with a focus on innovative, precedent-setting projects. Representing an international roster of firms & talent, our agency has a deep understanding of the profiles, practices, portfolios, and potential, and is engaged in the cultivation and promotion of projects from start to finish. Our roster’s experience and capabilities includes master planning, architecture, design, sustainability, art, construction, and image-making projects.

Since 2012, the agency has led a collaborative process for winning and publicizing 60+ projects on six continents — from creative housing projects, commercial adaptive reuse and an arts campus in Detroit, to a concert hall in Bogota, a community-centered senior housing development in Singapore, East Berlin’s former department store turned creative workspace, a U.S. Embassy in Mozambique, a tech company’s net-zero headquarters in Sydney and several U.S. cultural institutions including The Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Harvard Art Museums (Cambridge), the Clyfford Still Museum (Denver), and Speed Art Museum (Louisville), among others.

Since 2022, ABOVE THE FOLD has worked with faculty at the University of Michigan’s Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning on promoting their work ranging from brick-and-mortar projects to research and development of new concepts and solutions for affordable housing, urban technology, building materials and construction methodologies.

Established in 2012, ABOVE THE FOLD’s founder John Patrick learned the ins-and-outs of real estate at The Marketing Directors (New York City, 2006) and business development and public relations in the international A/E/C industry at Rockwell Group (New York, 2007), OMA (Rotterdam, 2008), BIG (Copenhagen, 2009), and Allied Works (Portland and New York, 2010-2011).

He studied Economics at Tulane University while learning about architecture and continuing his interest in business, real estate, and cities. An avid traveler, John Patrick’s semesters and study abroad included Belize’s commitment to sustainable national development (2005) and metropolitan development in Berlin, Paris and St. Petersburg at IES Abroad through Humboldt-Universität (2008).
