On March 8th, Dean Jonathan Massey named Antje Steinmuller as the next chair of the architecture program at the University of Michigan Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Project: Core City Habitat (In Progress)

EC3’s second residential project in Detroit is a 30-unit, 21,325-square-foot ground-up development organized around several existing trees and featuring a landscape “spine.” Working with model photographs, the project has received coverage in ARCHITECT and Urbanize.

Project: Crystal Barn (In Progress)

Awaiting groundbreaking, EC3’s first project in Idaho’s Treasure Valley reimagines the conventional shopping center as a creative, net-zero destination. The design announcement was covered by Designboom, The Architect’s Newspaper, Idaho Statesman and BoiseDev. The project has expanded to include another series of buildings, “The Collection.”

Profile: ABOVE THE FOLD featured in national architecture, business, culture, lifestyle, and real estate

Shortly after founding the agency, John Patrick was profiled in Cultured Magazine as a “Design Agent” shaping the now. In 2016, after moving from New York City to Detroit in fall 2015, he published an opinion piece in Crain’s Detroit Business about about needing contemporary design to thrive in the 21st century. In 2017, Commercial Observer recognized the agency’s work and named John Patrick one of the A.E.C. industry’s top pros to watch. In 2023, upon completing the adaptive reuse of an auto shop into the agency’s headquarters, Hour Detroit featured how John got into architecture and designed the space. The agency’s work and thoughts have been featured in ARCHITECT, aspire design & home, Detroit Design, The New York Times, Resident, Venu Magazine.

Project: Urban Tree House (2022-2023)

ABOVE THE FOLD led the press campaign for Urban Tree House, one of New York City’s most unique apartments. The 3,500 sq. ft. space is defined by a central “garden folly” surrounded by three walls of 22-ft tall glass overlooking the river and city. Press highlights include NBC’s Open House New York, DETAIL, Dezeen, Contemporist, Archdaily and ROOM Diseño, among others.

Project: Briarcliff Residence (2022)

A top emerging architecture firm in Detroit, Iannuzzi Studio completes their largest single-family ground-up home. Featured in aspire design and home, and Detroit Design, the award-winning project has been covered by CONCEPT, Dezeen, Robb Report, Yuzu, Whitebaord Journal, STIRworld, Archdaily and other international architecture & design press.

Project: Northwood ADU (2021)

T+E+A+M’s first ground-up project is one of the first ADUs in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The project, attached to the home of principals Ellie (E) and Adam (A), is a high-performance rental unit with unique materials and energy-saving features. Featured in Wallpaper*.

Project: Mandala Lab (2021)

Representing the architect and photographed by Rafael Gamo, the Rubin Museum of Art’s Mandala Lab opens in New York City receives positive coverage from The New York Times, AIA New York, Surface, TimeOut New York, The Architect’s Newspaper, FRAME, Re-Thinking the Future, World Architecture, aspire design and home, Hospitality Design, The Art Newspaper, and The Wall Street Journal.

Project: RIMOWA (2021)

Photographed by Rafael Gamo, Superfuture global shopping expert and editor Andreas said, “The compact premises feature an interior design by not one, but two architecture practices, namely MA-MA and Mass Studio, which is anchored by a nifty 3.81-meter (12.5 ft.) long multi-functional display table. Divided into two pivoting cantilevered corian stone elements, it’s able to regulate the direction and flow of circulation throughout the compact space, allowing the store to transform and be adaptable over time.”

Project: Glass Mural (2021)

Curating the project team then collaborating on the press campaign, ABOVE THE FOLD secured an exclusive announcement in Wallpaper* with a story calling Glass Mural “a love letter to the city.” One of the architecture firm’s top-performing project announcements and social media campaigns, Glass Mural received coverage in Architect, DetroitIsIt, The Architect’s Newspaper, The Detroit News, DBusiness, Archdaily, Designboom, and WXYZ ABC 7, among others.

Project: DUNAS (2020)

Jasper Architects’ competition-winning design for an immersive resort in Kuwait receives coverage in Hyperallergic, Building Design + Construction, Kompas, Archdaily, ELCO, Chrono Holding, Surfaces Reporter, Designboom, The B1M, World Architecture Community, e-architect, and other international architecture & design press.

Project: UP! Berlin (2020)

This transformation of East Berlin’s former shopping mall into a creative workspace received feature online coverage from Co.Design and Wallpaper* in addition to other international architecture & design press. The project has received further recognition through awards from the Chicago Atheneum and DETAIL.

Project: Glossier Flagship (2018)

Working with Glossier and Gachot Studios’ PR teams, ABOVE THE FOLD oversaw Peterson Rich Office’s press campaign for the immersive multi-story New York City flagship. The project received business and design coverage in The New York Times, Forbes, Galerie, ARCHITECT Magazine, Architectural Record, Wallpaper*, Milk Decoration, Women’s Wear Daily, ADPRO, AD France, & more.

Project: USTA’s $550 Million Phase II Completion (2016)

Representing the firm’s most robust press campaign in its nearly 50-year history, ROSSETTI receives praise for its second phase completion of the United States Tennis Association’s $550 million masterplan. Photographed by Rafael Gamo, the project was covered in The Real Deal, Architectural Record, Sports Illustrated, The New York Times, and winner in The Architect’s Newspaper 2017 Best of Design Awards, among others.

Profile: Shigeru Ban Architects (Current)

Published by Rizzoli, Shigeru Ban: Timber in Architecture presents 45 architecture projects designed by Shigeru Ban Architects over the past 35 years. To celebrate the release, ABOVE THE FOLD collaborated with Shigeru Ban Architects, William Stout Architectural Books and the Eames Institute on two signed book events. It was the first time Shigeru Ban presented in San Francisco. San Francisco Business Times interviewed him about mass timber in their Construction issue.

Wired Magazine features two buildings by ABOVE THE FOLD-represented firms WHY and WOHA in “25 Masterpieces That Prove 2016 Was an Incredible Year for Architecture”.

Book/Exhibition: GARDEN CITY MEGA CITY: Rethinking Cities for the Age of Global Warming (2016-2020)

Releasing a new book and showing their first exhibition in the US, the world-renowned Singapore-based architecture firm WOHA joined ABOVE THE FOLD’s roster in 2016. A four-year assignment, we collaborated on securing over 70 international media placements through the promotion of WOHA’s stunning portfolio of work in the Eastern Hemisphere. Working with Aaron Ashmore, an Austin-based real estate entrepreneur, ABOVE THE FOLD also led the fundraising, installation, opening and deinstallation of the Garden City Mega City: Rethinking Cities for the Age of Global Warming exhibition in Austin Central Library.

Project: Core City Park (2019)

A mix of old and new, the official magazine of the American Society for Landscape Architecture publishes a 7-spread feature about how “Core City Park formalizes Detroit’s naturalized typologies with a true sense of care and intentionality.” Other placements include Crain’s Detroit Business, SEEN Magazine, The Arab American News, World Landscape Architect, and Curbed.

Project: Clyfford Still Museum (2011)

Opened two months prior launching ABOVE THE FOLD in 2012, John Patrick was Allied Works’ in-house press lead for the construction and opening of the Clyfford Still Museum between December 2009 and December 2011. The project received widespread international attention in ARCHITECT Magazine, Architectural Record, MARK Magazine, KTIRIO, Concrete Architecture & Design, Artforum, The Plan, Architektur und Bauforum, Undiscovered American Museums, Intelligent Facades, and the 2012 Travel + Leisure Design Awards, among others. The press campaign for was executed in conjunction with the firm’s book release, awards, and talks.

Profile: WHY (2013-2018)

ABOVE THE FOLD represented Kulapat Yantrasast and his firm WHY in securing profiles and features in the US, Europe and Asia. Magazines and newspapers include The New York Times, WSJ. Profile: Peterson Rich Office (2018-2022)

Representing this firm for business development, ABOVE THE FOLD led Peterson Rich Office in winning The Shepherd, the adaptive reuse of a church in a new arts center, in Detroit within three months of joining the agency’s roster. Commencing the collaboration with their need for more attention and credit in the media, ABOVE THE FOLD worked on press campaigns for Glossier Flagship, PERROTIN, the Regional Plan Association’s selection of firm founders as 2019 Richard Kaplan Chairs for Urban Design, the Mandala Lab at the Rubin Museum of Art, Davison Arts Center at Wesleyan University, and The Shepherd, the firm’s founders and projects were featured in The New York Times, ARCHITECT, Galerie, AD India, AN Interior, Cultured, The Architect’s Newspaper, ABITARE, Dezeen, Fast Company, Madame Architect and other international & design media. Through ABOVE THE FOLD’s network Peterson Rich Office was a finalist to design The Armory; invited to a design competition for a new cultural and wellness retreat in Joshua Tree; and introduced to several potential clients for academic, cultural, and housing projects.
